White Iphone 4 thicker than Black Iphone 4 for 0.2mm

What.? Yup its true, according to 9to5mac the white iphone 4 is 0.2mm thicker than the black alternative. They also have photo proofs and you can clearly see the little difference on these to iphones - the white one and the black one. Here's a photo..

VentureBeat explained why could this happen:
1. Apple has introduced a fix for the iPhone 4’s antennae woes. The iPhone 4 has a hardware flaw that causes the phone to lose reception when held a certain way. At face value, it doesn’t look like the phone carries any kind of design differences.

2. The white paint for the new iPhone 4 required a different game plan. The white iPhone’s case did not insulate the its camera’s flash and leaked light when taking photos, according to reports. White iPhone 4 parts also caused some issues with the phone’s proximity sensor, which disables the screen when talking on the phone so owners don’t accidentally hang up, according to Apple’s Steve Wozniak.

3. The white iPhone needed additional protection from external light sources. Any light leaking into the phone could disrupt the iPhone 4’s screen and make the image less clear, which would be a sore point for Apple because it touts its “retina display” as one of the best smartphone displays in the business.

4. Apple is just trolling tech geeks everywhere to try to generate some additional publicity for the white iPhone 4 — because even a 0.2 millimeter difference is enough to generate news buzz when it comes to an Apple product.

Permanent Iphone Unlock is no longer available

A company offering permanent iPhone unlocks without the need for jailbreaking. We told of our concern about just how the unlocks were being carried out and now, unsurprisingly, the company has withdrawn the service.

Priced at $169.99 the unlocking service promised to make your iPhone work with any SIM card, permanently. The prospect of not having to jailbreak each time a new iOS version came out was appealing, but something didn’t quite sit right with us – turns out we were right.

In an interview with CultOfMac, the company claims to not know why the service no longer works, but that they will be refunding customer who will not be able to receive the unlocking service after all. CutYourSIM even goes on to say they never knew how the unlock worked in the first place!

“Unfortunately, we were not able to complete the rest of the unlocks waiting in our queue due to our suppliers being unable to offer the service anymore,” CutYourSim told Cult of Mac. “Our suppliers have told us that there is a possibility that the service may return, but they do not know when, so we have decided to start processing refunds for any orders that we were not able to complete.”

“To tell you the truth, first our supplier told us there were server issues, then after that they just told us that they will not be offering the service anymore. We are not sure where the service comes from, or whether it’s a contact through AT&T or Apple. We do know that the service is performed in the UK, but that’s about it.”

Strange? you betcha!

It’s believed the unlock was made possible by CutYourSIM having a contact either at Apple or one of the UK’s official carriers, with said contact adding each and every customer’s IMEI numbers to the Apple whitelist. The problem there is the chances of getting caught are fairly high, and it’s entirely possible that’s what happened.

While it’s a shame this is no now longer an option, CutYourSIM one again proves one of life’s little lessons to be accurate – if it’s too good to be true, it usually is.

Dropbox comming to iFile..!

Great news for those of a jailbroken persuasion, as it seems iFile will be getting Dropbox integration for uploading and downloading files according to a tweet from the app’s developers.

iFile is an app for jailbroken iOS devices that acts as a Finder for mobile devices, and the addition of a link to Dropbox can only strengthen the app’s already large appeal to the jailbroken power user.

There is currently no information as to when the new Dropbox feature will be available to users, and we’re sure more than a few of you are waiting patiently for it!

iRetinizeBoot - Optimize icons for retina display

verizon iphone 4 iRetinizeBoot: Quickly And Efficiently Optimize All Your Icons For Retina Display
New tweak in Cydia: IRetinizeBoot. Do you have Apps from the iTunes App Store and the icons ruin the look of SpringBoard because they aren’t Retina Optimized icons? Well now there is an effortless solution to that, and it is absolutely free. Introducing iRetinizeBoot. iRetinizeBoot runs when you boot your device, checking for new apps that aren’t retina optimized.

While your device is booting it quickly and efficiently iRetinizes ALL of your icons! Once it finishes, it closes the background process so it isn’t running in the background. When your device finishes booting, your icons are iRetinized! NOTES: Not all icons can be iRetinized, due to bad programming on the app that didn’t iRetinize, but 99.9999 percent of them can be iRetinized! If you have over 100 apps, iRetinizeBoot will finish iRetinizing your app icons, but the last 80 percent might not appear until the next respiring or reboot.
This is due to iRetinizeBoot is still finishing by the time SpringBoard is running. iRetinizeBoot can also at any time be run on your iDevices terminal. Simply type iRetinizeBoot and it will automatically start iRetinizing your apps for you.
iRetinizeBoot is available in Cydia via modmyi repo….

Ipad 2 Users cant connect to Verizon 3G

TiPb Asks: Is your iPad 2 having problems connecting to Verizon 3G?
News:Verizon iPad 2 owners are complaining that if they turn off 3G in settings they can’t reconnect to Verizon’s 3G network unless they reboot. Restoring hasn’t helped and apparently swapping devices hasn’t helped either. It’s unclear how many Verizon iPad 2 3G users are suffering with the bug but an Apple Discussions thread has already filled with page after page of complaints.
UPDATE: Apple issues the following statement concerning the Verizon 3G connection problem:
"We are aware that a small number of iPad 2 customers have experienced connectivity issues with the Verizon 3G network and we are investigating it"

iSTEVE - Steve Jobs official biography

Official Steve Jobs biography coming in 2012!
[Other] Could Steve Jobs have agreed to an official biography? According to Simon & Schuster, he has indeed with the book arriving in early 2012.
"Walter Isaacson’s “iSteve: The Book of Jobs” will be published in early 2012. Isaacson has been working on the long-rumored biography since 2009 and has interviewed Jobs, members of his family, colleagues at Apple and competitors."
Having read several of the un-authorized biographies and having listened to Jobs Stanford commencement speech, I’m very much looking forward to this. The story of the man who helped mainstream the CLI (Apple II), GUI (Mac), Multitouch (iPhone and iPad), digital music (iTunes), 3D animation (Pixar), Apple Retail, and more, with his support and input? Yes please.
Only question is iBooks or iTunes audio book?

Iphone 4 Front Camera Spying on users.?

[Other]Disturbing reports come out of the Apple Discussion forums point to some odd goings on courtesy of Apple’s FaceTime equipped iPhone 4. According to reports, the camera may be taking photos of us without our knowledge.

If a couple of discussion board posters are to be believed, the issue was brought to light when a previously unknown photo popped up during a FaceTime call. By unknown, we mean the user says they didn’t take it. Obvious, if probably incorrect assumption later and we’re told the iPhone camera has a mind of its own.
My boyfriend and I have both recently experienced this problem several times – when one of us is calling the other via FaceTime, an old picture freezes on our screen, while the person receiving the call only sees a black screen. It’s kind of creepy, because it brought up photos of both of us at work, where I have used FaceTime a few times but he never has. We’re just wondering how/why this is happening, and if there is a fix. It’s not terribly inconvenient, but it’s definitely unsettling, where is seems that even if we haven’t taken a picture or used FaceTime, the camera is keeping images. If anyone else is experiencing this, we’d love feedback. Thanks!
While a little odd, we’re not sure this warrants the mass hysteria it’s almost guaranteed to cause. For starters, it appears the offending photo is only shown on the original iPhone – no pictures have been transmitted to a 3rd party. Granted it’s strange the users claim to have never taken the photos themselves, it wouldn’t be the first time someone has taken a picture with a smartphone and not known. Hell, we all keep pocket-dialing people don’t we?
Also a possibility is the good old bug. It’s quite likely an iOS glitch could be causing the camera to take a snapshot or hold a buffer’s worth of video when the camera app is launched and this is subsequently not getting purged correctly. If this is the case, then it is likely going to be patched in the upcoming iOS 4.3.2 release.
Anything is possible, and we’re not quite sure the ‘Apple is spying on us, best get the tinfoil hats out’ brigade are right on the money with this one.
Still, we’ve been wrong before!

Redsn0w 0.9.6rc11 - 4.3.1 - New Features: Custom Animated Boot Logo

[News] Redsn0w for iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak has just been updated to version 0.9.6rc11. Just like Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 for Windows, the new Redsn0w 0.9.6rc11 adds a new option to enable custom animated boot logos for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad).   Release rc10 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
(The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”.  It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).
Those of you who are already jailbroken on iOS 4.3.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 can simply rerun Redsn0w 0.9.6rc11 over the existing jailbreak by selecting “Allow boot animation” option as shown in the screenshot above, but make sure you uncheck “Install Cydia” option to avoid package conflict with the existing jailbreak.

Ipod Touch 5G Leaked Photos

In a welcome departure from all the iPhone 5 talk, MacRumors brings us photos of what one of their readers claims to be the 5th generation iPod touch.

The photos, sent in anonymously claim to show a DVT-1 prototype of the next generation iPod touch and is said to be of the 128GB variety.
Of particular note is the apparent capacitive home button that looks to have replaced the current hardware solution.

The only other feature worth noting is the all-metal rear plate, similar to that we’ve been hearing rumors of finding its way to the iPhone 5.

We’re not sure what to make of these photos and just as everyone else on the internet we’d urge caution when checking out the photos. It could be legit, but it wouldn’t be the first time a good knock-off has fooled us all!

Iphone 5 is not showing up in June - But When.?

[News] While WWDC is primarily a developers conference, it’s one of the biggest events that Apple holds annually which is why they have always chosen it to announce all the iPhones. This year, however, report suggests that Apple will not be announcing iPhone 5 at WWDC, instead, they will keep WWDC software-only.

If Apple isn’t announcing iPhone 5 as part of WWDC 2011, when will it? Will the release be delayed till 2012 as earlier reports suggested or will Apple still release the device in June but in a separate event?

Apple may stick to the original schedule with a June release which is also what a report by a Korean site suggests.

The report further adds that SK Telecom and KT will be amongst the first carriers to offer the new iPhone in Korea.

iPhone 5, the next model of iPhone 4, will be released on the coming 4th week of June. In the midst of the iPhone 5 postponement rumors, Apple has confirmed that iPhone 5 will be released as planned and it will be released simultaneously in Korea through SK Telecom and KT.

There are reasons to believe that the claim is untrue. Firstly, the claim has mentioned Apple as the source of information. This is completely absurd since Apple wouldn’t confirm anything at Korea before it does at US. Secondly, various reliable and often-accurate sources have reported the launch to be delayed till 2012 since Apple is yet to start final manufacturing runs of the product that is expected to happen by end of year.
